Use Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble Numbat) with Vagrant

Canonical does not ship Show archive.org snapshot Ubuntu 24.04+ Vagrant images due to HashiCorps switch to the Business Source License (BSL) Show archive.org snapshot . There is currently no open source fork of Vagrant.

Alternatives

Use LXD

LXD Show archive.org snapshot is an alternative which you can use to create containers and virtual machines. All Ubuntu versions are available as official LXD Image Show archive.org snapshot .

Use vagrant-libvirt

It's possible to run the official Ubuntu Cloud Images Show archive.org snapshot with Vagrant by using libvirt instead of VirtualBox. There are third party boxes Show archive.org snapshot like cloud-image/ubuntu-24.04 Show archive.org snapshot which can be used.

Caveats

• The images are unmodified but unofficial.
• Sharing via the /vagrant folder is not possible. Use SSH/SFTP instead.
