Encoding works like this:

require 'htmlentities'
coder = HTMLEntities.new
string = "<élan>"
coder.encode(string)               # => "<élan>"
coder.encode(string, :named)       # => "<élan>"
coder.encode(string, :decimal)     # => "<élan>"
coder.encode(string, :hexadecimal) # => "<élan>"

Decoding works like this:

require 'htmlentities'
coder = HTMLEntities.new
string = "élan"
coder.decode(string) # => "élan"
