The closest is probably Nimbus Sans L Show archive.org snapshot , which is released under the GPL, AFPL, LPPL licenses. However, I couldn't find a way to convert Nimbus Sans L into a web font.
I finally settled with Liberation Sans Show archive.org snapshot , which is awesome for some reasons:
- Although it's available for free, it's a high quality font because its creation was thankfully sponsored by Red Hat.
- It's a more playful take on Helvetica. It will not satisfy purists, but it's a great looking typeface.
- It's available in TrueType (.ttf) format.
- It's available as a Font Squirrel @font-face kit Show archive.org snapshot
- It's licensed under a special form of the GPL Show archive.org snapshot which allows you to embed the font without having to license to containing document under the GPL.
