How to export OTP secrets from authenticator apps

If – for whatever reason – you need to transfer 2FA codes from a Google Authenticator or similar app, you can use the extract_otp_secrets Show archive.org snapshot tool.

Google Authenticator has an inbuilt mechanism to transfer codes via QR codes, but this usually requires another Google Authenticator app to import the codes. extract_otp_secrets allows you to read that QR code with your webcam instead and prints the OTP seed to your console. This seed can then be imported into keepass / any 2FA app / shared with other people, etc.
